Cursillo has its origin within the Roman Catholic Church in Majorca, Spain in 1949. The first Episcopal Cursillo in Oregon was held in the spring of 1976. The movement, sponsored by the Bishop of the Diocese of Eastern Oregon, is primarily a lay movement which is directed by the Cursillo Board, an elected group of lay persons and clergy.

“I am among you as one who serves” Luke 22:27c

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Your “Sharp” core team met for a third time this past weekend and realized that Cursillo is a short four months away.  We are delighted to see team applications coming in and are grateful to those who have committed to serving our Lord. If you are still considering serving on team this year there is still time and we encourage you to join us. It is important to have a full team to give the new candidates the opportunity to have the journey and receive the gift that is Cursillo. Those of you who have already made the commitment to serve on team but have not yet turned in your application please take the time to send them in, it would be most helpful in making those team assignments.

Forms are available on the Eastern Oregon Cursillo website http://www.easternoregoncursillo.org or you may mail them to:

Diana Sharp PO Box 162 Heppner, Or 97836.

Along with building a strong team, we need to be thoughtfully and prayerfully be thinking of people in our communities who would be blessed by being asked to further their spiritual journeys by attending a Cursillo weekend. In our 4th day group in Heppner we set a challenge to invite those that may be interested in Cursillo or are just curious about it “potential candidates” to a 4th day dinner we are holding next month. The challenge is for everyone in our 4th day group to bring a friend. Make a friend, be a friend, bring a friend to Christ. So we challenge you to find a friend and offer a friend this opportunity of the Cursillo gift. Candidate applications can also be found on the above website.

We are excited to see everyone at our first Team meeting March 2nd, 2013 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in The Dalles. Attendance is encouraged as this time is used for team planning and building. We plan to gather at 9am and ask that you bring a snack to share, a sack lunch, your songbooks, nametags, and your cross. Please be prepared to pay your team fees at this first team meeting. If you need a scholarship to help pay for your team fee please contact a core team member we would be happy to help you with this.

Future Dates to remember:

  • 1 st Team Meeting - March 2nd, at St Paul’s
  • 2nd Team Meeting -- April 13th, 2013 at St. Paul’s
  • Cursillo #46 -  May 2nd - 5th at Cove

Just like the scripture reminds us, “I am among you as one who serves” so prayerfully be thinking of candidates that we can gratefully serve.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone in March.

Dear Brother and Sister Cursillistas,

At our Annual Meeting on September 29th, an in-depth discussion was held on the state of our financial situation.  At this time, the Cursillo Community of Eastern Oregon has a balance on hand of $1,968.21.  Unless we can find some ways of increasing that balance, it will be virtually impossible to have a Cursillo in 2013.

Discussion was held on the possibility of going to a bi-annual Cursillo until such time as we can build our bank balance back up.  The off years could be used for having two Grand Ultreyas a year, and work on building our local Ultreyas and Fourth Day groups.  The consensus of the group present at the Annual Meeting was that we would rather continue with the annual Cursillo.

With that in mind, a motion was made to increase our annual dues to $25.00 per year due on December 31st of this year (for 2013), and each subsequent year.  The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.  We will work on a method of notifying people in the fall of each year that it is time to pay their annual dues.
